The fortress was built in around 1385 by the feudal lords of Soragna, the marquises Bonifacio and Antonio Lupi. In the 17th century it was transformed into the splendid and luxurious residence of the Meli Lupi princes, who are still the proprietors and live there to this day. Its rooms are adorned with furniture and furnishings from the early Baroque period, but there are also significant testimonies of earlier eras. They preserve interesting fresco decorations and striking cycles of paintings by Nicolò dell'Abate, Cesare Baglione, Ferdinando and Francesco Galli Bibiena. On the northern face, the large, romantic, English-style park still exists. Encircled by a wall, it features a wealth of age-old plants, a small lake/pond, a hothouse, a café haus and a grotto inside a mound
