Busseto, a small town of the Bassa Parmense (Lower Parma) area, is steeped in history and traditions: it was the seat of the dominion of the Pallavicino family who made it the capital of their state from the X to the XVI century and in 1533 it was elevated to the status of city by the Emperor Charles V of Hapsburg. The Pallavicino were present here for five centuries until 1587 when submission to the Farnese put an end to their dominion. During the same period the town experienced years of intense civic and cultural life. It was in this vibrant setting that the natural talent of Giuseppe Verdi had the chance to develop and blossom, and what makes the town unique lies precisely in the fact that it has preserved the memory of the fundamental stages in the life of the Maestro, from humble beginnings in Roncole to international renown and the luxury of Villa Verdi
